Gary Hartman was born in 1954 and in 1974 joined the Western Australia Police Service as a police officer - he retired in July 2001. Since then he has created a second career as a bus driver, a job which finances his love of traveling, particularly to the United States. He is married to Raylene (30 years now) and has two children, Ryan and Scott. Gary is a big fan of the music of Scott McKenzie but also likes Harry Chapin and more recently Joshua Kadison and Israel Kamakawiwo'ole. In April 1994 the Mamas and Papas, with Scott McKenzie, visited Gary's home town of Perth. After the concert Gary and Raylene waited at the stage door to meet Scott and the rest, as they say, is history. Gary and Scott corresponded a few times and then in 1997, after searching the web for information on Scott, and finding nothing, Gary created the Scott McKenzie Web Site which has the full support of Scott himself. Gary and Raylene (and son Scott) travelled to the USA for the first time in 2001 and were lucky enough to meet Scott in his home on two occasions. In 2003 Gary and Raylene (and son Ryan) returned to the USA and on this occasion went to San Francisco. A great thrill. A third trip in April/May 2006 saw Gary and Raylene spend 3 days with Scott at his home in LA. Both Gary and Raylene rate the time they spent with Scott as one of the very special moments of their lives. Scott is a truly wonderful person. |
